If you're independent like me, life can sometimes be difficult. We feel like we need to solve the world's problems as individuals. While we can be our own badass, there's incredible power in recognizing that a group of badasses can do mighty things.
When my fiancée died last January, I began a year of conscious grieving that allowed me the time and space to sift through the memories of our lives together and make sense of what was left behind. This Christmas I was given a surprising opportunity to close the circle by turning the page of an old story and along with a little help from Steve, start to roll with the changes.
This week as we honor the memory of those who survived the Holocaust, I'm honored to share Franciszka Stocki's memoir, MY JOURNEY OF FAITH AND HOPE. As editor of this incredible autobiography, I was able to intimately share her experiences as a young Polish girl, a survivor of a Siberian concentration camp and the joy of immigrating to America where she raised a family in northwest Ohio. Sharing stories like Franciszka's keeps their memory alive and keeps us ever mindful of history.
January 27 is Holocaust Remembrance Day. In this video, I share a story I was honored to learn years ago when I was researching THE LACEMAKERS. Emilie survived the horrors of Auschwitz and eventually immigrated to the United States after World War II. This is only part of her heroic journey and one that may be difficult to hear. But Emilie's courage in the face of horror is both heartbreaking and inspiring.
